Year 7 are spending this half term investigating environmental quality across the school. After preparation lessons on picking good research questions and how to complete a risk assessment, this week classes went outside to collect their data. In the coming weeks they will be turning their data into charts and writing up their findings.
Fieldwork is an essential part of a geographical education as well as being a National Curriculum, GCSE and A level requirement. It enables young people to develop their subject knowledge, gain a range of skills that are difficult to develop in the classroom and helps them to understand the ‘messiness’ of geographical reality. Each year the Geographical Association holds a 'National Festival of Fieldwork' and this year PIlton have got involved again.
