Our new Year 7s enjoyed their first taste of our multi-lingual school community last week when they were challenged to twist their tongues around no fewer than fourteen different languages in our annual Speed Chatting event celebrating European Day of Languages. Staff and students taught groups a few words both in more familiar European languages such as French and Italian and also in the more unusual challenges of Romanian, Urdu and even Zulu. Our student ambassadors enjoyed sharing information about their individual cultures, customs and languages and their pupils commented that they, "loved how many diverse people there were", "want to learn more about Lithuania" and "found out how my name is written in Tamil." Mandarin was apparently "tricky but quite fun", Slovakian was "hard but great" and lots of Year 7s can now count to ten in Japanese!
